Andrea
Aversa
Exhibition: May 15 to June 7, 2008
Reception: Wednesday, May 14, 7 to 9 pm

Andrea Aversa constructs intricate three-dimensional “sets”
from created, purchased and found materials before documenting them.
In “Untitled: Priest,” a painstakingly hand drawn cobblestone
street and St. Peter’s Basilica serve as the backdrop for a tiny
plastic priest racing across the middle ground. In “Brain Storm
# 2” an actual brain rides atop a model truck as hand painted
clouds build ominously in the sky. Through these works, the act of first
creating the dioramas and then lighting and capturing their essence,
the artist explores both his own psyche and the complicated relationships
we humans establish with our surroundings.
Andrea Aversa earned his MFA from Parsons the New School in 2006. Currently,
he lives and works in Milan, Italy.
